VERANDA MAGAZINE — A Custom Issue.

With this project, the task was to research and analyze the style, tone, feel, design, layout and audience of a magazine of choice. Then, the goal was to create a custom issue that would fit in with the brand and their style, while displaying our ability to create and make our own layouts and our own design decisions.

While we were instructed to use ChatGPT for the body copy, it was still up to us to understand what type of stories could be featured in this magazine, and then develop each page, with carefully curated images and design elements, to reflect that story.

Overall I had so much fun playing around and really honing in on a style to feel as though it's part of a bigger picture and brand. This is the project that kickstarted my passion for editorial!

The Veranda Magazine cover, a luxurious bathroom with lots of natural light and plants along, with the title of the Issue:

Veranda often has very busy-feeling covers, that immediately submerge you into their style of interior decorating. It's bold and luxurious!

Table of contents and an advertisement for dining room furniture at Serena and Lily.

Of course, in an interior design and artifact magazine, there are advertisements for furniture and home additions! You will see multiple throughout my magazine.

And editor's letter, and a jewellery ad for the company Tamara Comolli.

They also include various jewellery advertisements that the typical target audience would enjoy.

A section divider spread. This is now leading into the articles about objects and artifacts.

With each section of stories and articles, there are division pages with some key features you will see throughout the upcoming section.

The first spread about Kelsey Lawson, known as

The second and last spread of the Wallpaper Whisperer story, continuing to feature many different wallpaper patterns and ways they are used in homes.

Another divider of sections. This one is to introduce the Architecture and Decoration stories.

Additionally you'll see the pull quotes throughout each story, along with photos and their credits and captions. The goal was to be intentional with the page furniture and folios, the pagination and the drop caps.

A gallery spread of more colour filled rooms and statement pieces.

One of my personal favourite pages, giving a glimpse into the 12-column grid I used for the layouts.

Final page of the spread on Jude Hefflaw with two more images of rooms. There is copy on the top of the left page with an image below, and copy on the bottom of the right page with an image above.

The next division for sections, with this section now being about Flowers and Gardens.

Of all the spreads, this is the top personal favourite between the colours, the layout and the typography.

The back cover, which displays a man walking up the stairs with his hand on the railing displaying a Rolex watch. This is for a Rolex advertisement.
